Age: 43
Stage One: Breast Cancer

I was diagnosed approximately 16 months ago with breast cancer. I found the lump in my right breast through self-examination. It was very early stage 1 cancer, with the lump being less than a cm. in diameter.

I am a mother and a nurse, so I was initially was shattered by the findings. As a Marine, I kept in shape by running/walking 5-6 miles a day, doing 100 sit-ups daily, and attempting to eat the right foods. Since I work so hard to keep myself in shape, I was surprised to receive the lab results that I had cancer.

I endured two surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation. There is not one day that passes that I do not think of Cancer and how it has altered my life. I can’t help but think that it may still influence and alter my life in the future. More importantly, I now value each and every day of my life. I cherish every moment since I have survived cancer.
