40-49
Anne Goodson
breast cancer
stage one

I am a 41 year old African American female who was diagnosed approximately 16 months ago with breast cancer. I found the lump in my right breast through self exam. I am also a mother and a nurse. It was very early stage 1 cancer, with the lump being less than a cm. in diameter. I think I was initially shattered. I am also the ex-Marine excuse me "the Marine" "once a Marine, Always a Marine"! who kept in shape by running, walking 5-6 miles a day, doing 100 sit-ups daily and attempting to "eat the right "foods" e.g. low fat etc, etc. So needless to say, I was surprised to receive the lab results said I had Cancer. I endured two surgeries, chemo, and radiation, physical therapy and wearing the lymph reduction sleeve indefinitely. There is not one day that passes, that I do not think of Cancer and how it has altered my life and how it may still influence and alter my life in the future. More importantly I now value each and every day of my life, every moment now that I have survived Cancer!
