Patti Ensley
cervical cancer
stage one
I was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 1995 and had to have a radical
hysterectomy. After two years of being cancer free, my doctor found tumors
in my lungs. After having a lung biopsy, it was determined that it was
recurring cervical cancer that had spread through the bloodstream. I had
to undergo chemotherapy which did not get rid of the tumors. I then had
surgery. Almost exactly one year later, my doctor detected a tumor in
the right lung. I underwent surgery, having the right lobe removed from
my lung. I got through all of this by using imagery (while listening to
classical music), a positive attitude (most of the time), doing what my
doctor advised, and lots of prayers. I still worry that it will come back,
but I try to live each day to the fullest. It's hard to talk about with
my friends, because they've never gone through it, but I try to be a "walking
testimony" that you CAN survive cancer!
