Age: 40-49
Roanne S
breast cancer
stage two

In November 1999 I found a lump in my right breast. I had my last mammo in May of 1999 so I was concerned but not crazed, My aunt was just diagnosed so I went and had it checked out. The surgeon did a fine needle biopsy, a week later I was told it was benign, yet solid so I should get a sonogram but I could wait till after the holidays. I went about my business then I read an article in Redbook about symptoms and where your lump is located. Yes I was tired but I thought it was the crazy holidays. I started to really look at by breasts and saw a slight discharge I decided to tell the doctor and made the sonogram in January 2000. My millennium began. One week later I didn’t take my husband because I thought no big deal, yet in the back of my head I was concerned. It was malignant. I HAD BREAST CANCER. Feb.2 I had a lumpectomy, It showed cancer and my margins were not clear. Another lumpectomy 2 weeks later more cancer discovered. One week later we did a third lumpectomy and removed some nodes. Now it is March 3 and I am getting a mastectomy. I choose reconstruction with the stretcher being put in at the same time. It is now October and my chemo of Adriamycin cytoxin taxol is done I’m getting reconstruction soon and I’m taking Taxol. Physically I’m doing ok I still get tired, but more important I know I should be happy but there are days when I’m so depressed. I have a lot of faith and I m looking for ways to support others because I feel like I can help someone else who is at the beginning of their journey. My journey is to be continued will keep you posted.
