50-59
Denise Cameron
endometrial cancer
stage one

I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer in December 2001. At first I was in a daze. My surgery went well and I received lots of cards and support at first. I am still out on disability but will return in March. I have had some trouble sleeping thinking about recurrence. My Doctor said it was a stage 1-2 but contained in the uterus. I had first been told it was a stage one. Ever since I heard stage 2 I have had this uneasy feeling. He tried to reassure me but I still am fearful. You see, I am a home care nurse. And when I was diagnosed I was taking care of a woman who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and was told it was gone. A year later she had mets everywhere and ended up dying. So I know it can return. No one can tell you for certain it is gone. It helps to talk about it. I know that I can not focus on the cancer returning. I need to get on with my life and try to take care of myself and not let the fear overwhelm me. I always tell people not to worry about things that have not happened yet as it does no good. I have to keep telling that to myself.
