40-49
Jacquie
breast cancer
stage two

I was diagnosed on February 25th 1999, my 47th birthday. I detected the lump, but I was going for a Mammogram. When my mother passes with stage V mestatic cancer, it was brought to my attention that I was a likely candidate for the BEAST. My doctor did everything he could to make sure we would be ahead with the mammograms, BSE and CBE. Never the less I got Breast Cancer anyway. My story is much the same but with a twist. I went for my scheduled appointment for after care with my Oncologist and it was time for the dreaded mammogram, well it is a different experience now because due to breast density and again I had to have several pictures taken! Very suspicious so they scheduled a Ultra sound and Needle core Biopsy. The doctors figured because of my past history it would be best to investigate further. I went in for more breast surgery. Great ! No Cancer was back. But I did get a Breast abscess that I am still fighting today better than Cancer but it is hard to move on but I have.

I volunteer all of my time to Cancer and Breast Cancer. I am a peer to peer volunteer where I visit women and just talk one on one, phone support Canadian Cancer Connection, Chemo Angel where I am matched with a patient going through chemo. Send cards and little gifts as a pick me up. I have volunteered for the Relay for Life and the Terry Fox, where I spoke of my experiences. My reward is to put a smile on a face! Help someone who needs knowledge of what they might experience during Chemo and yes everybody has different side effects. I am spreading spreading Breast Cancer awareness as I have created a Breast Cancer site, where one can find fast information. I do believe in Angels as one is with me as I went through this journey.

I have moved and now seeing a new Oncologist whom has changed my medication from Tamoxifen 20mg to Arimidex 1mg.

We all have a journey and mine has been rocky but have met a great many people who are now my new friends. Keep the dream alive support Cancer for more Research and one day the dream will become reality.
