As a mother, I've learned that by nature we want the best for children and we want to be able to "fix" anything that goes wrong in their life. I guess it's just human nature. However, cancer is not something that a mother can fix, often causing the mother to fall apart on her own. When a daughter is diagnosed with breast cancer, her mother usually unravels. Mothers can cope if they are the ones served up this diagnosis, but it can be emotionally unbearable when they learn that their "baby," no matter what her age, has been diagnosed. And, in reality, the daughter needs the support of her mother most during the cancer experience.
